In addition to providing emergency medical response and standby services to the
Cornell campus and surrounding properties, Cornell EMS also provides training
and education programs to the surrounding community.
American Red Cross Certified Training
Our squad has a number of certified American Red Cross CPR and First Aid instructors. Successful completion of one of our courses results in American Red Cross certification valid for 1 year (or 3 years for First Aid certifications). We offer all the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED classes, as listed below with their approximate course lengths:
• CPR—Adult (3 1/2 hours)
• CPR/AED—Adult (4 1/2 hours)
• CPR—Adult, Child and Infant (5 hours)
• CPR/AED—Adult and Child (5 1/2 hours)
• CPR—Child (3 1/2 hours)
• CPR/AED—Child (5 hours)
• CPR—Infant (3 1/2 hours)
• CPR—Child and Infant (4 1/2 hours)
• AED—Adult (1 1/2 hours, requires current Adult CPR card)
• AED—Child (1 hour, requires current Child CPR card)
• AED—Adult and Child (1 1/2 hours, requires current Adult and Child CPR cards)
• Standard First Aid with CPR—Adult (5 1/2 hours)
• Standard First Aid with CPR/AED—Adult (6 1/2 hours)
• First Aid (3 1/2 hours)
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (8 hours)
The times given for each class are based on the guidelines released by the American
Red Cross and include time for breaks. Because each instructor may teach at
a different pace and each class may be of a different size and have students
with varying participation levels, classes may be shorter or longer than noted.
Classes may also split into two components as necessary. Weekday classes are
normally during the evening hours while weekend classes are generally taught
in the morning and/or afternoon.
In order to set up a class we recommend contacting
us as soon as possible. We are more than happy to schedule a class as much
as a few months in advance but ask that no class be scheduled within two weeks
of the preferred start date. Courses are offered based on instructor availability.
Education Programs
Cornell EMS is happy to participate in education programs in Ithaca and the
surrounding area. In the past, Cornell EMS has visited area elementary schools
and has participated in events such as a Safety Fair. Based on availability,
Cornell EMS is able to make a presentation to educate the community on medical
emergencies and the role of EMS.
Cornell EMS will speak to any organization or group about our services or EMS related topics of your choice.
