CUEMS Sends 10 Members to National Collegiate EMS Conference

Cornell EMS sent 10 Members to the 2009 National Collegiate Emergency Medical Service Conference (NCEMSF) in Washington D.C. Eight members of the current Executive Board as well as two general members attended events throughout the weekend.

CUEMS members joined over 800 other collegiate EMS providers from over 80 colleges/universities to gain EMS knowledge and progress their agencies by attending lectures and sessions based on emergency medicine given by doctors and emergency service personnel. Topics ranged from Administrative and Training Roundtables, to Use of Advanced Airways at the basic level and science behind ECG/EKG Interpretation. The conference also featured keynote speakers on Life after Collegiate EMS and a Blast Trauma Lecture in Memory of Major John P. Pryor, a former lecturer of NCEMSF and an avid sponsor of collegiate EMS. Other events included an EMS skills competition and social events where agencies were able to meet one another. The Conference allowed members to gain insight on how other Collegiate EMS Agencies run, which provided a number of ideas for the future and provided insight into areas that CUEMS stand out in. The group returned to Ithaca ready to plan for the future and implement new ideas in areas such as Training, Operations, and Community Outreach.
