Community Education

CUEMS is dedicated to providing educational programs to the Cornell and Ithaca communities. We offer a number of classes through the American Safety and Health Institute, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid. In addition to these classes, we also offer a number of safety presentations to the community, including recognition of medical emergencies, activation of emergency medical services, and alcohol awareness.

Each year, we teach dozens of classes to the community and certify hundreds of students, faculty, and staff in the skills of CPR and first aid. We frequently participate in fraternity risk mitigation training and resident advisor emergency situation training panels.

As a member of the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Service Foundation (NCEMSF), CUEMS participates in National Collegiate EMS Week each November by hosting a number of EMS-related events and training sessions across campus. In the span of one week, we host numerous walk-in Hands-Only CPR courses, provide information on our services, host EMS trivia events and vehicle demonstrations, and distribute safety materials.

More information about what we offer is under each tab below:

CUEMS is proud to offer CPR and first aid certification through the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI). We changed our certification provider in 2018 to ensure that we may continue to provide these classes without charge to the Cornell Community. CUEMS offers several levels of certification detailed below. All classes are taught by CUEMS members who are certified ASHI instructors; class offerings are subject to instructor availability. Please note that weekday classes are generally offered in the evening hours, while weekend classes are generally offered in the morning or early afternoon hours.
